This piece was heavily influenced by the poem of the same name – inhloko yomuzi - by Sandile Dube.

Beyond the imagery, this is a conceptual exploration of the infamous model of duty bound matriarchs.

The three-legged pot is a traditional South African pot. Here, it is a representative of the duties and weight placed on woman within this traditional context. The three-legged pot is as much a pot that women are familiar with as it a representation of those who impose this familiarity.

The everyday woman navigating life through the lens of patriarchy. The weight of this patriarch is not only blinding as seen through the pot, but also heavy on the shoulders. In the South African context, the pot is her helmet as much as it is her crown - the only crown she has been willingly given. It blinds as much as it gives somewhat of a purpose.
